Coll De Frare Fig

Coll de Frare was discovered by well-known fig collector, Montserrat Pons. The mother tree was located in Sineu in the Balearic islands. Coll De Frare trees have mostly 3-lobed leaves with serrated edges. The trees exhibit average growth and average resistance to rains. Coll De Frare figs are known for their tightly closed eyes and you can expect these figs to ripen from September-October. Coll De Frare has a deep red pulp and the trees will produce one main crop annually. It is a common variety, not requiring wasp pollination.

When do we ship cuttings?

We begin shipping cuttings once the trees are dormant. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start by late November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early Spring until the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

Your cuttings will be cut to order to ensure freshness and provide the greatest chance of rooting success. Cuttings will be approximately 8”, with at least 3 nodes, and will be thicker than a #2 pencil (many are sharpie thickness or greater). Our mother trees are stored in a climate-controlled environment to keep the trees dormant and healthy through the winter and early Spring. The cuttings are guaranteed to arrive in perfect, ready to root, condition.
