Dr Clark Fig

This is an heirloom variety that has been around for 100+ years. A proven producer, Dr. Clark fig trees are heavy producers and have good resistance to splitting and leaf rust. The tree originates from Louisiana, where figs must be able to tolerate heat and humidity. In fact, Dr. Clark was so productive that it became known as a canning variety in the south. And if the thought of opening a can of homegrown, southern honey figs wasn’t romantic enough, Dr. Clark fig trees also come with a harrowing tale of bravery. 

Dr. Cecil Clark was a well-loved family physician in the Cameron Parish of Louisiana in the 1950s. His commitment to the community was never more apparent than when he cared for hospitalized patients during hurricane Audrey, a devastating storm that hit Louisiana in 1957. While Dr. Clark moved patients and cared for the injured, he tragically lost his own 3 children in the storm. Dr. Clark was awarded by the United States for his service to his patients and achieved many awards including the American General Practitioner of the Year. Dr. Clark’s fig tree is an heirloom variety that is a reminder of the spirit of community in Louisiana and Dr. Clark’s service to others.

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.

Rooted Cuttings(Spring):

We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
