Sant Mateu (Mateo) Fig

Sant Mateu (Mateo) was named for the town in which it was discovered: Sant Mateu d'Albarca. The small village sits on the island of Ibiza, Spain. A fig enthusiast by the name of Pierre de Ferluc discovered the fig, and passed it along to his friend Thierry, of Figues du Monde. Sant Mateu came to the larger fig community through the respected collection of Figues du Monde.

This variety has an excellent strong flavor of berries of strawberries and is considered very sweet. It is known for a super moist texture that makes it delicious to eat when ripe. Sant Mateu trees are vigorous growers and produce small, round figs. Sant Mateu has distinctive, large, 7-lobed leaves. The variety ripens mid to late season, depending on growing conditions. It is a common variety, not requiring wasp pollination.

When do we ship cuttings?

Non-Rooted Cuttings(November/December):

We begin to ship cuttings once the trees are dormant and in a shippable state. Exact timing is weather dependent, but we usually start in November. Shipping continues throughout the winter and early spring. We stop shipping when the trees begin to break dormancy, normally around mid-March.

**All non-rooted cuttings ship between November and March regardless of the date selected during checkout. Orders placed during our pre-sale period(October/November) will ship out first in November/December. If you are rooting your cuttings in the spring, our cuttings can be kept in the refrigerator until you are ready to root them. They will be perfectly fine. That is what we do and they've turned into our most impressive trees.

Rooted Cuttings(Spring):

We begin shipping rooted cuttings once they are mature enough to ship. The shipping period typically begins late April and continues into June. Regardless of the date you select during checkout, we will ship when ready during that span. Please do not ask for ETA's or specific arrival dates. You will receive an email when your order ships with UPS Ground tracking details.
